“With compassion, we see benevolently our own human condition and the condition of our fellow beings.” Christina Baldwin

Charles Dickens’ classic tale, “A Christmas Carol,” is a glorious example of how becoming compassionate can transform our lives. Jacob Marley’s unsympathetic life condemned him to an afterlife of sorrow and suffering; but his compassion for his miserly friend Ebenezer frees this friend from a similar fate and improves the lives of many others. Ebenezer needed to see, feel, and compare the moments of compassion in his past and present to the moments of cold heartedness in order to understand who he had become. He needed a glimpse of his tragic future to see where his insensitive lifestyle was taking him. When he saw clearly and felt deeply his effect on others and their response to him, he was able to give and receive compassionately. What moments of compassion and cold heartedness have influenced your life? More important, how have you chosen to incorporate them into who you are and how you act toward yourself and others? Will your eulogy be filled with tales of love and caring if you maintain your current lifestyle? Don’t wait for ghosts and spirits. Look benevolently at yourself and others and act with compassion.

Use this affirmation to become more compassionate:
I am compassionate, seeing, feeling, and healing myself and others.

Take this action to become more compassionate:
Watch or read “A Christmas Carol” and allow yourself to be transformed.

Love, Light & Hope,
Andre
