Environment, Poverty, and Energy - Healing the Planet
Saturday Morning, October 3rd, Concurrent Session 9:45 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.
The idea and metaphor of "healing the planet" are used by many mainstream authors who envision solutions for our global problems. I will review ideas from three recent books by popular writers and scientists: Paul Roberts "The End of Oil," Jeffrey Sachs "The End of Povert" and Jared Diamond's "Collapse," and show they all converge on a notion of higher planetary consciousness oriented towards healing humanity and the Earth. I will also talk about how I creatively use the texts in my college course on "Global Issues."
